"Glamourous Glennis" Bell XS1
18” x 24” Painted in 1974
Air Force Captain Charles Yeager made the first manned supersonic flight on 14 October 1947 flying the rocket powered Bell XS-1 through the Asound barrier@. The aircraft reached Mach 1.06, or 700 mph at 43,000 feet. The Reaction Motors XLR-11 engines which powered the XS-1 was built in Denville, New Jersey.
