Fiat CR-42

In late 1939 the Italian Air Force ordered the Fiat C.R. 42 into production. This was a fast (247 mph maximum at 20,000 feet) and a very maneuverable biplane. However, its performance and armament could not match that of the world’s more modern monoplane fighters, and it became an effective ground attack aircraft.
