Fighter Pilot Heaven
24” x 32” Painted in 1980 F-106
F-106 of the 539th Fighter Interceptor Squadron based at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey descends into the late afternoon overcast high over New Jersey. The F-106, built by Convair, was an all weather interceptor capable of speeds in excess of Mach II, or 1,450 mph at altitudes up to 70,000 feet. The F-106 served at McGuire in defense of the Northeast corridor from 1959 to 1968.
