First Solo in the J-3 Cub

First Solo in the J-3 Cub

18” x 24” Painted in 1975

The legendary J-3 Cub, built by Piper Aircraft Corporation in the thousands between 1938 and 1948, was so well known that to the general public, all light planes were Piper Cubs.  It is claimed that four out of five U.S. pilots in World

War II and civilian pilots immediately thereafter received their initial flight training in the Cub.  The painting was inspired by the artist first solo in 1953.
