The Rio Grande Encounter

Rio Grande Oil Company used a Fokker F-10 trimotor as its executive aircraft in the late 1920s. The painting, created for a book published by Atlantic Richfield Oil Company, depicts the aircraft, carrying newsmen and photographers, escorting the Graf Zeppelinas it flew over the Rio Grande company headquarters near El Paso on its famous 1929 round-the-world flight. The Graf Zeppelin had begun its journey flying Eastbound from Lakehurst, New Jersey via Germany, Japan, and California, using the El Paso route asthe lowest crossing of the United States Continental Divide. The Zeppelin returned to Lakehurst after 21 days, 7 hours, and 31 minutes in the air.
