Curtiss Jenny, America Flew

18” x 24” Painted in 1989

The Curtiss JN-4D was the major production version of the famous World War I Jenny trainer. At war’s end, thousands of 90 hp OX-5 powered US JN-4D and Canadian built JN-4CAN were declared surplus and sold to civilian buyers at give-away prices.  Offering inexpensive flight to the average public, the Jenny marks the beginning of general aviation.  (Among Jenny owners was a young man named Charles Lindbergh.)

Painted for U.S. Historical Society for production of AOPA Tableau 1989
