The Anglo French Supersonic Concorde
18” by 24” Painted in 1977
The supersonic transport Concord 001 was rolled out of its hanger in December 1967 and made its first flight on March 2, 1969. This pioneering supersonic transport was to enter scheduled service on the routes of Air France and British Airways on January 21, 1976. The Concorde cut flying times of subsonic jet airliners by half on these routes. Flying at twice the speed of sound, it could fly from New York to London in 3 hours and 17 minutes. It was to serve for nearly thirty years before its high costs led to its retirement and display in aviation museums. The Concorde was the only supersonic airliner in service and was visually unique in that it used the droop nose pioneered by the Fairey FD.2 research aircraft to improve cockpit visibility on landing.
